Suzanne Herman joined Beyond in January 2025 after returning from New York City to her hometown of Chicago. Suzanne received her bachelor’s in English literature from Barnard College. Afterwards, she worked as a tenant’s rights organizer for the City of New York, primarily with senior citizens to secure housing benefits. This inspired her to attend law school and study Housing law. As a Pro Bono Scholar graduate of Fordham Law, Suzanne practiced eviction-defense in the Bronx during the height of the pandemic. Suzanne aims to be an approachable legal resource for her clients no matter what the area, from rental assistance, unemployment benefits, predatory debt collecting, to appealing licensures denied for past criminal history.
Suzanne also serves the Legal Director for Period Law, a national legal and advocacy non-profit that fights for tax-free, toxin-free, environmentally sustainable menstrual products to be available to everyone who needs them for no cost. She has written and presented widely on the subject, including a note in the Fordham Urban Law Journal entitled A Blood-Red Herring: Why Revenue Concerns are Overestimated in the Fight to End the Tampon Tax (2021).
Suzanne is a movie and literature lover who is honored to be a part of the community lawyering movement at Beyond.
