Expanding our Reach

With many of our community members currently living in fear, we thought there would be no better time than the present to expand our reach. Beyond Legal Aid is proud to announce that we have launched a new community partnership. Latino Union is joining our network of community partners as our newest activism partnership.

Latino Union of Chicago builds power with day laborers, household workers, and other contracted workers to fight for social and economic justice through education, organizing, advocacy, and coalition building.

Representatives from Latino Union, Miguel Alvelo Rivera and Mauricio Huertas, share our excitement about this partnership launch:

“This partnership is important to Latino Union and our base because it provides a critical resource that our membership usually doesn't have access to. Worker members usually encounter predatory lawyers who take advantage of their lack of information and charge them beyond what they can sustainably provide. Having access to legal advice and support from trusted experts will help us advance our mission of building worker power in our communities.”

Rivera and Huertas also took a moment to speak to their hopes for this partnership:

“We are hoping to further educate our member base on their legal rights and connect them with needed legal support when relevant. We hope to be able to offer this support as an additional benefit of being involved and organizing with our communities of support.”

Together, Beyond Legal Aid and Latino Union are uniquely positioned to fuse our expertise and provide movement-driven legal aid for community members across Chicagoland.
