Luis Amézquita joined Beyond Legal Aid as a paralegal in September of 2024. Luis was born in Mexico City but immigrated to DeKalb, Illinois with his family when he was four. He attended college of DuPage before transferring to Northern Illinois University. He majored in Political Science with an emphasis in International Relations, and minored in Spanish, Sociology, NNGO studies, and Latin American Studies. While at NIU, he served as president, treasurer, and secretary of DREAM Action NIU, an organization that advocates for Undocumented students on campus and in the surrounding community. He also worked as an undergraduate student worker at the Undocumented Student Resource Center at NIU. As a DACA’mented individual Luis believes in the power of community activism and is excited to work for an organization that prioritizes this in their legal practicing model. Luis hopes to be able to attend law school in the future to better serve marginalized communities, in the fields of public policy and legal representation.
