A.J. Johnson Reyes joined Beyond Legal Aid as a staff attorney in February 2023. He works in collaboration with Enlace Chicago, serving their community members through their weekly legal clinics in Little Village. He is focused on Immigration Law and currently holds a law license in Washington State.
Before joining Beyond, A.J. worked as a Legal Advocate and Staff Attorney at the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) in Seattle, Washington, representing immigrant survivors of violence before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and before the Immigration Court. A.J. grew up in Carson, California, in the harbor area of Los Angeles. He attended Grinnell College in Iowa and earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science with a concentration in Latin American Studies. A.J. earned his law license through the Washington State Bar Association’s Rule 6 Law Clerk program, an alternative-to-law-school apprenticeship, which he completed while employed at NWIRP.
