A Year in Review - 2021
After celebrating Beyond Legal Aid’s 10th anniversary earlier this month, we are feeling inspired as we continue with the 10-year campaign! Today, we will be reviewing 2021, where our focus was expanding our programming. The pandemic underscored that there is no shortage of communities in need, which continues to be true today. Please consider supporting our campaign so that we may continue our work for the next decade and beyond.
Reflecting on this pivotal year, Beyond community empowerment supervisor, Saul Brand Padilla, recalls that “2021 brought new opportunities that allowed us to expand into new geographical areas and thus broadened our reach to new communities in the suburbs. This was and is important to us because now we’re able to bring services and resources to communities that desperately need them.”
In late 2021, we launched our partnership with Farmworkers & Landscapers Advocacy Project (FLAP) that offers services statewide. The launch of this partnership was significant as it achieved our goal of expanding our programming into the suburbs, legal deserts where other legal aid organizations struggle to operate. In the 5 months following the clinic’s launch, Beyond took on a staggering 79 cases.
Reflecting on the launch, FLAP staff noted that, “I think the big impact that the legal clinic has made is [connecting] people looking [for] immigration advice [with an] attorney that can help them with their legal case at zero cost.”
Keep an eye out for 2022’s highlight, another monumental year in Beyond’s history, coming next month! Be sure to also compare each month’s “Year in Review” graphic (below) to see how much we’ve grown over the years. We could not have had 10 years of success without supporters like you, please consider donating to the campaign if you can.
